"The River" N Scale Railway is a home model railway layout.

Why N Scale??

Well its room. I only have a small shed in which to house a layout. While I quite like shelf style layouts, I did need continuous running of trains so that I will be able to sit back, have a beer or two and let'em run. N scale is very close to 2 mm so a lot of material and techniques can be adopted from the 2 mm scale.

Why Hawkesbury River??

In the limited, 14' x 2'6" that I have available "The River" will fit, with a bit of compression, on two levels. The bottom level will be Hawkesbury River Station leading across the causeway to the entrance of Long Island tunnel. Running via a helix up to the second level where will be Hawkesbury River Bridge spanning across the 10' or so to another helix down to the lower level and the run from Cowan Bank.
The River was a coaling and loco services for trains before the famous run up Cowan Bank with the Up Trains to Sydney. The location lends for excellent modeling opportunities with various freight and passenger trains, the "Newcastle Flyer", and numerous bank locos. Loosely modeling the track layout in the early years and at the completion of the new bridge will allow for the incorporation of a coal loading stage, turntable and wharves with their associated infrastructures.
